Industrial Grade Fans and Ventilation Equipment are generally designed for continuous use applications and are often made of heavier grade materials. Materials can range from Carbon Steel to Aluminum, Galvanized Steel, Fiberglass and Stainless Steel. The construction and component parts are often heavier in thickness such as the fan housing  or rotating equipment such as the impeller or backward incline blower wheel and even the power transmission products that you typically find on belt driven industrial grade fans can be different.
Examples of power transmission products used in the construction of industrial quality belt driven wall axial fans are pillow block ball bearings instead of sleeve bearings or bronze bushing type bearings, the sheaves are often cast iron versus stamped steel, and the motors are often but not always odp (open drip proof), totally enclosed air over or totally enclosed fan cooled motors or even explosion proof motors when explosive or combustible gases are present.
With the increased life cycle of an industrial grade fan generally comes an increase in cost. However, the initial increase in cost of your fresh air supply fan or your roof mounted exhaust fan can lead to less money spent on maintenance or replacement costs. Down time, loss of productivity, employee discomfort, product damage and facility damage are things that can happen when your ventilation fan fails or doesn't perform properly.

Ventilation Products available  in industrial grade are wall axial exhaust fans, wall axial supply fans, wall axial reversible fans, wall centrifugal up blast or down blast exhaust, inline fans or tube axial fans, circulation fans, ceiling exhaust fans, permanent mount or portable blowers, laboratory exhaust, fume exhaust plenum fans, man and product coolers, louvers, fresh air supply shutters, operable louvers. At Airdistributor Company, we have the ability to customize some of the products on this page to meet your design criteria. Special rust inhibitive coatings such as epoxy or heresite are available.

Propeller Type  industrial wall exhaust and roof exhaust fans are often available with different propeller designs. Fixed blade models are designed for high efficiency, low noise and low speed operation. They are intended for general building exhaust applications where overall static pressure is low and there is no or little duct work. They are an excellent choice for stagnant air,  heat, smoke or light dust removal and when air circulation is required. The number of blades found on an wall exhaust fan and roof exhaust fan can also effect the performance level. Generally, four bladed exhaust fans quite often loose their performance or cubic feet per minute faster as the static pressure raises than say a six bladed industrial exhaust fan running at the same speed or rpm.

Industrial Ceiling Fans  are different than commercial grade ceiling fans. When talking about the 3 blade ceiling fan design type, industrial ceiling fans are typically available in sizes up to 60 inch ceiling fans and small industrial ceiling fans can go down to 36 inch in size. Industrial ceilings typically but not always have a sealed motor making them an excellent choice in high moisture or dirty locations. Industrial ceiling fans can often be used as outdoor ceiling fans under covered porches or gazebos because of this feature. Please consult the manufacturer's literature to see if this is possible. Industrial ceiling fans typically do not come with lights. Industrial ceiling fans with lights are usually just residential ceiling fans made to look industrial. The CFM or performance level of an industrial grade ceiling fan and RPM or revolutions per minute are usually an indicator as to how the ceiling fan will perform. Industrial grade ceiling fans typically have a much higher velocity than a residential grade or even a commercial grade ceiling fan. This is an important feature for higher mounting heights. The extra velocity is needed to overcome the greater distances often associated with an industrial installation. Large industrial ceiling fans are often called HVLS or High Volume Low Speed ceiling fans. This class of ceiling fans typically have a much lower RPM and greater square foot coverage because of the multiple blades and larger sizes available. But the product and installation costs are often higher as well. Most industrial ceiling fans are limited in color availability such as white. But, alternative colors such as black ceiling fans and brown ceiling fans and even silver or brushed aluminum ceiling fans are available in select sizes.

Industrial Shutters, Dampers and Louvers are typically available in many sizes and configurations usually in 1" increments and sometimes different depths. Louvers are generally fixed blade (stay open continuously) and allow air to pass through as the static pressure lowers. Louvers are used to supply fresh air to an enclosed space. They can also be used to allow air to escape from an enclosed space when the space is being pressurized. Negative static pressure is typically required for a louver to allow fresh air to flow into the space it is helping to ventilate.  Negative pressure is typically caused by an exhaust fan operating in proximity to louvers. When the exhaust fan is turned on, it creates a sucking action much like a vacuum cleaner. This is how the negative pressure is generated.  Industrial louvers are typically designed to prevent rain and moisture from entering a building as long as the velocity rating or beginning point of water penetration rating of the louver is not exceeded. Proper supply air ventilation is important for employee comfort, safe working conditions and when toxic fumes or explosive gases are present and allow your exhaust fans to operate more efficiently. Industrial fresh air louvers are typically available in different depths such as 2", 4" 6" and beyond. Usually the deeper the louver, the more protection it gives from rain as the static pressure increases. Louvers are also available in drainable and non-drainable designs. Drainable louvers typically collect the rain and drain the water to a side channel located to the left and right of the blades while the non-drainable typically do not collect the water and just allow it to fall of the face of the louver. Industrial Dampers and Shutters can be both gravity operated or motorized. Gravity operated shutters typically go in front of an exhaust fan or exhaust ducting and are blow open by the action of the fan and close by gravity or weight of the shutter blades when fan is not in use. Industrial shutters often have a tie bar on them that ties all of the blades together so they all open or close at the same time limiting any flapping from wind. Motorized shutters use an actuator and linkage to open the shutter. Typically when the actuator is energized, linkage is used to hold open the shutter and when it is de-energized, there is quite often an internal tension spring on the actuator that holds the shutter closed when not in operation. Shutters are often but not always on the same energy circuit as an exhaust fan so when an exhaust fan is turned on, the industrial shutter is opened, feeding the exhaust fan with fresh air. Shutters typically have more open area than does a louver and may not offer as much protection against moisture or rain from entering your building. This problem can be solved be adding a weather hood over the shutter.
