High Volume Low Speed Ceiling Fans

High Volume Low Speed (HVLS) ceiling fans are known for their ability to move, and De-stratify large volumes of air at lower speeds and lower noise levels compared to their 3 blade paddle fan counterparts. And, unlike traditional three bladed industrial/commercial grade paddle fans that typically range from 3ft. to 5ft. in diameter, High Volume Low Speed Ceiling fans can be found from 7ft. to 24ft. in diameter depending on the manufacturer.

The anatomy of an HVLS ceiling fan typically consist of 3 to 6 blades attached to hub. The hub is attached to either a gearbox or directly to a gearless inline motor. The motor is often encased by a metal frame and drop rod connected to a structural member of the building such as an I-beam. Variable Frequency Drive sometimes used in tandem with a thermostat or logic controller can be used to vary the speed, change direction or turn the fan or fans off or on dependent upon environmental conditions in which they operate.

HVLS or high-speed low volume ceiling fans are aesthetically pleasing because they operate at near silent decibel levels while delivering a large volume of air. They give you the sense that a large airplane propeller is operating overhead to keep you cool and comfortable in the warmer months or de-stratifying the heat in the cooler months.
